Frequently Asked Questions

Can I submit my own family recipes to be featured on your site?

We absolutely love receiving family recipes from our community! While we can't guarantee every submission will be published, we do regularly feature reader-contributed recipes that align with our traditional, home-style focus. Please send your recipe along with any family history or special memories associated with it to submissions@cookscompanion.com.

How can I adjust a recipe for dietary restrictions?

Many of our traditional recipes can be adapted for various dietary needs. For gluten-free options, all-purpose flour can often be replaced with a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. Dairy substitutions like almond milk or coconut oil can work in many recipes. However, as these are family recipes developed over generations, we recommend testing substitutions in small batches first. Feel free to contact us for specific recipe modification advice.

Why don't some of the older recipes include exact measurements?

Many of our heirloom recipes were originally recorded with instructions like "a pinch of this" or "enough flour until it feels right" because they were passed down orally or written by cooks who measured by instinct. We've tested and standardized these recipes for modern kitchens, but encourage you to adjust to your taste - that's the spirit of traditional home cooking!

How often do you add new recipes to the collection?

We add new recipes to our collection monthly. These come from both our family archives and carefully tested reader submissions. We also publish seasonal variations of existing recipes throughout the year. Subscribe to our newsletter to be notified when new recipes are added.
